An An, the oldest-ever male panda in captivity, passed away at the age of 35. According to a statement from the Ocean Park theme park, An An was euthanized after his health deteriorated over the course of several weeks.

The statement said An An lived a full life that ended at the age of 35. An An has brought us many happy memories. He will be sorely missed.

The giant panda was given to Hong Kong in 1999. The two pandas were given by Chinese officials as part of a panda diplomacy program, where giant pandas are leased to other nations.

She was the oldest panda ever kept in captivity at 38 years old. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, the average lifespan of a panda is 14 to 20 years. pandas are considered to begeriatric when they stop breeding at the age of 20

High blood pressure was the cause of An An's death. An An's food intake decreased while his nap time increased. An An stopped eating solid foods and only drank water with electrolytes.

After An An was taken off display due to his poor health, a team of vets and panda experts decided to kill him.

There are two more giant pandas at Ocean Park. The 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China was celebrated with the gift of the panda pair. The pandas are old.
