The New York Jets announced on Thursday that Mekhi Becton was one of five players to be placed on the active/PUP list.
He missed 16 games last season because of a knee injury.
New York's other starting offensive tackle, George Fant, was also placed on the injured reserve list. The players can be removed from the list at any time.
When he was drafted out of Alabama two years ago, many thought the Jets had found a left tackle. He has struggled with injuries and weight issues. He played in 15 games in his first two years, but only eight of them.
A big way this season is what Becton seems to be motivated to do. He wore a shirt that said "Big Bust" while attending the team's mandatory minicamp. It was lazy. It's out of shape. Bums. It's socks. It's overweight. It is an injury prone. He was in front of the media for the first time in over a year, but he didn't take part in the New York's voluntary program for the birth of his child.
When asked if he had a message for his critics, he said he would make them eat their words.
The left tackle position is important to Becton. Robert Saleh said after the season that he would have to win his job back if he wanted to keep it. He isn't afraid of competition.
