The crew of the Qantas Airways plane decided to make an emergency landing because they were low on fuel.
A Qantas pilot told The Guardian that the plane was running out of fuel.
The pilot said the issue was not a safety one.
The crew on the Qantas Airways flight had to make an emergency landing because the plane only had 40 minutes of fuel left.
The Australian Safety Transport Bureau said in a report that the Qantas flight was running low on fuel when it tried to land in Perth.
The fuel reserves were stable despite the fact that the aircraft landed safely.
The pilots were told to make sure the plane had enough fuel because of delays at Perth airport, according to The Guardian. Air traffic control told the pilots that they had to call a mayday if they didn't want to land quickly.
The chief pilot at Qantas told The Guardian there was no safety issue.
The pilots fueled the plane in accordance with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
The pilots should request a mayday call if they want priority landing because air traffic control at Perth said the plane had to wait for longer than they thought.
The aircraft had 40 minutes of fuel in it's tank, which is well above the minimum requirements. There was no safety issue with the flight.
Qantas didn't reply to the request for comment. The ASTB didn't say anything more than what was on its website. The investigation should be finished early next year, according to the report.
