The EV king of Texas is building fast relationships with Mexico.

It seems thatTesla is very busy. The electric vehicle maker is busy. There is a lane at the U.S.- Mexico border for cars. The Mexican Corporation for the Development of the Border Zone of Nuevo Len confirmed the existence of the road in a phone call with Gizmodo.

One of the multiple lanes on the Mexico side of theColombia Solidarity Border crossing has a sign with the logo of the electric car maker on it. Ivan Rivas, the economic minister of Nuevo Len, said that the lane would allow suppliers to cross the border quicker.

Rivas said that it was simply an incentive. We want a crossing that is quicker and easier to navigate. It is possible that there will be a lane for other companies in the future. Rivas, and many other Mexican officials did not reply to the request for comment. Our request for comment was not responded to by the company.

Gizmodo got in touch with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Rick Pauza seemed to be unaware of the new lane over the phone. Pauza said that the Defend Trade Secrets Act might prevent him from discussing any details about the change.

Pauza sent a follow-up email.

CBP would not be able to speak on behalf of the Government of Mexico or anything on the Mexico side of the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge.

I checked with Laredo U.S. Customs and Border Protection trade operations management, and aside from the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program and the dedicated lane for FAST participants, and the normal northbound cargo lanes, that is all that is available for northbound commercial trucks.

There is no dedicated lane for passenger cars in the US on the north side of the border. Only the Mexico side of the border crossing seems to have special treatment for the electric car.

Rivas said that there were at least six suppliers in Nuevo Len. It's not clear if the lane is only for suppliers. A passenger SUV goes through theTesla lane on the crossing. Is the crossing dedicated toTesla employees? People are simply driving cars. What kind of verification is needed to get through the lane? It's also not clear.

The World Trade Bridge crossing in Texas is about 20 miles away from the Solidarity Bridge border crossing. The average wait for commercial vehicles at theColombia Bridge is 22 minutes. The average wait time for cars in the FAST program is 8 minutes. There is no data on wait times for the lanes.

The company relocated its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin, Texas. Musk has persevered in the new location despite the fact that the Texas factory is not doing very well. He applied for permits to build a tunnel beneath the facility.

The richest man on Earth bragged on the social networking site that his cars are the most-made-in-USA vehicles.
