On the last day of SEC media days, Texas A&M football coach Jimbo Fisher put to rest any fears of tension between himself and Alabama coach Nick Saban.
At the SEC meetings we saw each other. Fisher said he had a good relationship with Nick. I respect him very much and I have no ill will towards him.
We're from the same part of the country and we have great respect for each other. I'm saying something. We didn't talk that way. We didn't call or talk and did nothing. We're just the same.
Fisher said that their thing went public. In this world, that can happen. Is everything private now?
During a meeting with local business leaders in Alabama, where he claimed that Texas A&M "bought every player" in its top-ranked recruiting class, he created a stir.
Fisher challenged reporters to look into Alabama's recruiting practices at the news conference. Fisher said at the time that he wouldn't be taking a call from the Alabama coach.
After trying to clarify his comments, he said he was frustrated with the "unintended consequences" of NIL and that regulation was needed.
The rivalry between Texas A&M and Alabama won't be a motivator for that game, according to Fisher.
He said the game was about the players. We are out of it. I'm too old to play that game.
