The state's health department confirmed a case of the disease. This is the first instance of the disease in the US in three years.
Health officials think the patient was given an oral vaccine that's no longer used in the US.
"State and County health officials advise medical practitioners and healthcare providers to be vigilant for additional cases," the health department said.
In the US, there was a widespread vaccine campaign that led to the near elimination of the disease. The disease, which ravaged the nation until the 1950s and 60s, can cause weakness in the nervous system and lead to death.
There were traces of the virus in London's sewage.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people should get four doses of the vaccine when they are young.
