The White House said that Biden tested positive for the disease.

The Press Secretary said that the 78-year-old is fully vaccined and is experiencing mild symptoms. He has begun a course of Paxlovid and started an isolation period in the White House in line with CDC guidelines.

According to a letter released from the president's physician, Kevin O'Connor, Biden had a positive test this morning that was confirmed by aPCR test. He had tested negative prior to this morning. According to the letter, Biden is experiencing symptoms of a dry cough, fatigue, and a sore nose.

O'Connor said he expects Biden to respond favorably as most maximally protected patients do. Older adults are at high risk for severe disease and the antiviral is effective at preventing it.

According to Jean-Pierre, Biden will be isolated until he tests negative. People don't have to test negative before they leave isolation. People can leave isolation after five days if they are free of the disease for 24 hours, but they should wear a mask for 10 days after testing positive.

Biden is expected to continue his work. He will be able to participate in his meetings via phone or video. The White House will give a daily update on the president's status.

The positive test came just a few days after Biden returned from a trip to Israel and the Middle East.
