Alan Grant had a great career in comics. He began writing romance comics in the 60's. Tarzan and 2000 AD were worked on by him and JohnWagner. Grant and Wagner co-authored Judge Dredd, which Grant worked on a lot in the 80s.
Grant wrote a Batman sidekick character, Anarky, in the hopes of spreading his political views through his artwork. Grant was expecting Anarky to take over the role of Robin, but Tim Drake was already in development, according to an interview with Planeta DeAgostini. He tried to get the rights to Anarky.
The fight between Batman and Etrigan is one of his favorites. Batman is forced to fight against Etrigan in the final part of the series even though he knows that the fight can only end in his own death. Etrigan changed his mind and said he liked Batman. I like the way you dress. I wonder what makes you angry. Is that true? What drives you to fight when hope is gone? It's time to cheer up. The thing is over. Free to go your own way. There is something deep inside you that is very similar to me.
The Inkpot Award was given to Grant by Comic-Con International. According to the 2000 AD site, he continued to work for 2000 AD throughout the 1990s, mainly on Anderson, Psi Division, where his partnership with artist Arthurranson produced incredibly beautiful stories such as Shamballa and Satan.
