In light of their space-loving young son's unexpected death, a Florida family is trying to raise money to rest his ashes on the moon.
Matthew's parents told Houston's KHOU11 News that he was a real space enthusiast. He wanted to be a pilot and anastrologer since he was 5 years old.
He used to go to Kennedy Space Center with his father. He wore a full-blown astronauts suit all the time.
Matthew had a dream that he would one day trek through the universe. Matthew might be able to make it to Earth's natural satellite after securing his son's ashes a seat on the upcoming "memorial spaceflight" company Celestis.
The memorial spaceflight services offered by Celestis are described on their website as a way to honor the lives of adventurous souls while also providing comfort to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
"It will give us some healing that we need to move forward with our lives, without him, but in memory of him," Cori said. "Just knowing that we can look at the moon every night and I know that he is up there."
The third mission of its kind will launch in late 2023. We wish nothing but the best for the Gallagher family and hope that Matthew finds a home in the universe.
The family of a space-loving son created a gofundme to send his ashes to the moon.
The upcoming mission will fly human remains to the moon.
