The AirTag battery indicator was removed from the Find My app in the latest version of Apple's mobile device operating system.
When the AirTag card is opened in Find My, there is a small battery icon below the name and location.
The notification is still sent to the user, but the general battery level icon is not visible if the battery is low. The same indicator was removed from Find My in the latest macOS Monterey 12.5 and watchOS 8.7 updates.
In an updated support document on how to replace AirTag batteries, Apple has removed a reference to the battery icon in Find My, suggesting that users should look for a low battery banner in the AirTag card.

The battery icon is believed to have been removed by Apple because of issues with the indicator. When the battery was empty, it was far from the case.
Unless Apple reverses the change, users won't be able to check on the battery status of their AirTags and will have to rely on a low battery notification when they need it.
