Olena Zelenska said that Russia's invasion made her son want to learn how to shoot a gun.
Zelenska, who is married to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and shares two children with him, told NBC that the ongoing war had robbed children of their childhood and that she hopes they will be able to find normal again.
My son was a member of the folk dance ensemble. He played a musical instrument. He was able to speak English. Zelenska said that he attended a sports club. He wants to learn martial arts and how to shoot a rifle.
She said that her son wants to become a soldier.
She wants her son's childhood to be given back to him and for him to enjoy his life to the fullest.
Zelenska and her husband have two children.
The family was not allowed to see each other in the first two months of the invasion. Zelenskyy's family were kept in a secret location while he lived in his office.
Zelenska told CNN last month that she is not allowed to see her husband very often and that she only sees him for a short time. Their relationship was paused, she said.
Zelenska traveled to the US for the first time since the war began. The war intensified in the east of the country.
Zelenska told Congress that she was not the wife of the Ukrainian president but a daughter and mother.
I'm requesting weapons. Zelenska said that weapons that wouldn't be used to wage a war on someone else's land would be used to protect one's home.
