The more instruments that watch the sky the better. China lacks focus on space-science missions because of this. With some notable exceptions, China's space agency has focused on lunar exploration and human spaceflight, as well as some remote monitoring capabilities, leaving the technical know-how of arguably the world's second more capable country on the sidelines. The most ambitious Chinese-led space science mission to date has been suggested by a team of scientists. One of the holy grails of astronomy research is an exoplanet.
No one has yet been able to find a planet like this in the field of exoplanet research. It's not for lack of trying. Almost 3000 new exoplanets were found, but none of them met the criteria of being Earth-sized in a sun-like star. According to the new paper, bad luck may have played a role in the failure to find a planet in the right place.
