Alaska Airlines will be the first US airline to use electronic bag tags.

The program will start with 2500 Alaska customers. All Alaska Mileage Plan members will be able to purchase electronic devices sometime next year.

Alaska didn't state how much the bag tags would cost. flyers will be able to skip the step of printing paper bag tags at the airport with the help of the airline.

Customers in Alaska will check in via phone, then simply touch the phone to their bag tag. The traveler's flight information will be displayed on the bag tag's screen when information from the phone is transmitted.
