When fuel stocks were low, a Qantas crew was forced to make a priority landing.
There is an investigation by the Australian Safety Transport Bureau.
The crew of a plane declared an emergency on descent over Wave Rock in Western Australia on July 18th.
The final report will be released at the end of the investigation.
Appropriate safety action can be taken if a critical safety issue is identified during the investigation.
Air traffic control told the pilots to carry an extra 10 minutes of fuel, but the wait blew out to 16 minutes. After 10 minutes of holding, the pilots were told they needed to make a priority landing.
There were 10 minutes of fuel stocks and 30 minutes of reserve fuel on the plane.
The chief pilot of Qantas said there was no safety problem.
He said that the pilots loaded fuel based on the pre-flight conditions.
Air traffic control requested the aircraft hold for longer than our pilots had previously been advised, and that to be given priority to land, our pilots needed to make a fuel mayday call.
40 minutes of fuel in the tank is well above the minimum requirements. There was no safety issue with the flight.
There were no injuries, no damage to the plane, and the investigation should be finished early next year, according to theATSB.
