Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Rumors: Browns 'Not Expected' to Pursue Deal for 49ers QB

One potential landing spot for Jimmy Garoppolo has already been ruled out by the San Francisco 49ers.

Despite some uncertainty surrounding their own quarterback position, the Cleveland Browns are not expected to pursue a trade for Garoppolo.

The ClevelandBrowns acquired three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans, but he's facing likely discipline from the league after allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. The Browns are bracing for an eight-game suspension, according to a report by Mike Florio.

There is some chatter about Cleveland possibly adding a free-agent quarterback. The quarterback played in eight games for the Carolinas last year.

The Cleveland Indians traded former No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield to the Carolinas earlier this month, leaving veteran backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett as the likely starter. There is only one quarterback on the team.

Cleveland never seriously considered trading for Garoppolo, even before the Texans made him available in March after a grand jury decided not to indict him. She stated that the Browns didn't view Garoppolo as a clearcut upgrade.

Garoppolo had shoulder surgery in March and hasn't participated in San Francisco's summer program. The 49ers are cautious with his return, even though he has been cleared to practice.

The opening of training camp next week could lead some teams to reexamine their quarterback options and possibly look for an upgrade.
