The committee did not say what the records contained, but they did say that the Secret Service had begun producing records.

The committee has concerns about a system migration that led to the deletion, despite the Secret Service's insistence that there was no malicious intent.

According to the committee, the system migration started on January 27th.

Evidence suggests that the Secret Service may have violated the Federal Records Act.

The committee will continue to have the highest level of cooperation and support from the Secret Service as they have from the beginning, according to a statement released by the Secret Service.

The committee did not say what the records it was looking for were.

Key Background

The Secret Service's response to January 6 and its agents' intentions on the day of the riot has come under scrutiny over the past few weeks, especially after Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari alleged last week that the agency deleted text messages after he requested to see them as part The National Archives asked the Department of Homeland Security to investigate whether the texts were deleted properly. At a January 6 committee hearing, Greg Jacobs, who served as general counsel to Vice President Mike Pence, testified that he refused to leave the Capitol with Secret Service agents because they would have kept him from certifying the election results. Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, testified at a later committee hearing that Donald Trump grabbed the steering wheel of his limo after he was told he wasn't going to the Capitol.
