Sources told Adam that the San Francisco 49ers gave Jimmy Garoppolo's agents permission to seek a trade.
According to a team source, Garoppolo has been given the go-ahead to practice as the Niners prepare for the start of training camp next week.
Garoppolo had surgery in March that delayed San Francisco's efforts to trade him.
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said in May that Garoppolo was most likely to be traded, but then added that a trade wasn't a guarantee.
Garoppolo has spent most of his off-season rehabbing in Southern California while Lance has worked as the starter. Garoppolo was excused from the team's mandatory mini camp in June because he didn't participate in the team's conditioning program.
The veterans are going to the training camp.
The final season of Garoppolo's contract will count against the salary cap, as he is 30 years old. The 49ers have the right to trade him to any team of their choosing if the no-trade clause is not fulfilled.
If Garoppolo were to be traded, an acquiring team would take on a $24.2 million salary, but that salary is not guaranteed and interested teams could potentially work with him on a contract extension that knocks down the salary number.
