Sean O'Malley told Ryan Clark on Wednesday that he'll be facing a former bantamweight champion in his next fight in October.
One of the sport's most talented prospects, O'Malley, fought to a no contest at UFC 276 against Pedro Munhoz as a result of a medical stop due to an eye poke. He is 7-1 with one NC in the UFC.
"I'm getting the fight that I wanted and the fight that the people want," he said. "Petr is the number one contender at the moment." He could be considered the champion because of his 1-2 record against Aljo. It's the biggest fight in the bantamweight division right now and it's exciting to step up against a guy.
The bantamweight title was up for grabs at UFC 273, and the winner was going to get it back. His boxing is one of the best in the sport and will be a test for O'Malley, who has faced strikers of his caliber to date.
The second ranked bantamweight isYan. O'malley is not ranked.
There will be a lightweight title fight on the Oct. 22 card.
