Charles Johnson was a star wide receiver at the University of Colorado and was a first-round pick of the PittsburghSteelers.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the cause of Johnson's death was not known. He was the assistant athletic director at Heritage High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina, when he died.
The 17th overall pick in the 1994 draft, Johnson played five seasons for Pittsburgh, hauling in 3,400 yards and 15 touchdown catches. In 1996, he had 60 catches for a career-high 1,008 yards and three touchdown, his best season with the team.
In addition to the Eagles and the Bills, Johnson spent one season with the Pats and the other with the Bills. He was on the team that won the Super Bowl.
Over his last two years at Colorado, Johnson was one of the best players. As a junior, he had 1,149 receiving yards and five touchdown catches, and as a senior, he had 1,082 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches.
