The race to succeed Boris Johnson as the U.K. prime minister will go to the final round.

In the fifth round of voting among Conservative members of Parliament,Penny Mordaunt received less support than any other candidate.

Foreign Secretary Truss came in second with 113 votes, while former finance minister Sunak won 137 votes. The International Trade Minister fell to the bottom of the vote count. Two votes were spoiled.

The leader of the U.K.'s Conservative Party will be decided by Truss and Sunak.

The results of the final vote will be announced by September 5, with Johnson expected to remain as prime minister until then.

Johnson stepped down as Conservative Party leader on July 7 after a series of scandals and mass resignations from his own cabinet.

The first round of voting took place on July 12 and eight candidates made it through to the second round.

Kemi Badenoch, a former minister for local government and then for women and equalities, was eliminated in a previous vote. Sunak got the most votes with 118.

U.K. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is vying to become Britain’s next Prime Minister.

There are an estimated 200,000 Conservative Party members who will vote for their preferred candidate.

The two candidates will be questioned by voters about their policies in a series of campaign events over the next few weeks.

Conservative Party members will pick the winner in a postal vote and the winner will become prime minister.

Sunak was the favorite to win Britain's top job until recently. There is no guarantee in British politics.

Sunak was seen losing to both Mordaunt and Truss in the final two-way round of votes. At that point, Sunak looked like he was going to lose to Truss by a wide margin.

Sunak believes that bringing down inflation is Britain's top priority. He has been criticized for a number of failures under Johnson.
