  • Google Chat now lets you add up to 8,000 members to a space.
  • The change marks a significant increase from the previous limit of 400 members.
  • It is now available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business users.

There are now a lot of larger chat spaces on the internet. Up to eight thousand members can now be added to the chat service.

The search giant has announced (opens in new tab) that it is allowing more participants to join a chat space.

Each space was only able to hold up to 400 people. The chat spaces are going to get more crowded. It is part of a larger effort to improve communication and collaboration for teams of all sizes.

The increased space limit can be enabled without any admin control. The new limit is only available when a new space is created for a chat preferred domain. The service status is being used to upgrade existing users of classic hangouts to chat.

The new space limit applies to all new and existing spaces where the classic Hangouts service is no longer used. It's not possible to create a space and add up to 8000 people to it.

The transition from the legacy service to the new chat service began in June.

Earlier this year, users were able to create spaces in the chat. A link can be used to share spaces.

Some of the best messaging apps have limits on how many people can be in a group. It is possible to add up to 1,000 people to a channel at the same time. Up to 512 people can be accommodated in the group.

It is possible that the increased limit on how many people can join a space will make it easier to spread important messages, but it is also possible that it will result in a lot of chat notifications.
