IHG One Rewards Offering Status Match & Challenge

The new loyalty program is called I hg One rewards. The changes are positive and I think the program is even more compelling than before. The program launched a match in May. The clock is running to register for this offer and I wanted to remind people.

IHG One Rewards status challenge basics

You don't have to have status to participate in the status match challenge program. Platinum status can be maintained or upgraded depending on how many nights you stay within 120 days of registration.

• If you stay five nights within 120 days of registration, you keep Platinum status through December 2023
• If you stay 15 nights within 120 days of registration, you receive Diamond status through December 2023

The registration period for this promotion is through July 31, 2022, so you will want to register as soon as possible. Those in Greater China are the only ones who are able to participate in this promotion.

A qualified stay is one booked directly with IHG where a member pays cash and the rate is greater than $30 per night.

How to request an IHG One Rewards status challenge

Go to the promotion page if you would like to request a status challenge. Go to the section that lists competing loyalty programs on the promotion page and select both the program that you are matching from and the status that you have. From there, the registration process is very easy.

You don't have to have status with a competitor in this case. Anyone outside of Greater China can take advantage of this and get Platinum status for 120 days. It is generous.

Is this IHG One Rewards status challenge worth it?

What is normally required to earn IHG One rewards Platinum and Diamond?

There are a few things to think about.

• Being able to get IHG Platinum status for 120 days without having status in another program is a great opportunity, assuming you don’t have an IHG credit card that offers that
• Needing just 15 nights for Diamond status could be worth it, given that Diamond status offers improved perks, like breakfast
• One thing to keep in mind is that the most value with status comes from Milestone Rewards, and those are unlocked based on how many nights you stay, so you’d only earn suite upgrades and club lounge access at the “regular” rate with this status challenge

Bottom line

The publicly available status challenge is worth a lot of money. If you enroll in the offer, you'll get Platinum status for 120 days. If you complete at least five nights during the promotion period, you can keep that status for the rest of the year. You get Diamond status if you complete 15 nights in a row.

The deadline to register is July 31st, so if you haven't yet done so, it's time.
