Thomas Tuchel admits the club needs to make more signings as they continue talks with Sevilla over a deal for defender Jules Kounde.

Tuchel is looking to add another centre-back to his squad after losing Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Tuchel was linked with the player in last summer's transfer window and has been admiring Kounde for some time.

Nathan Ake, who appears likely to stay at Man City, and Matthijs de Ligt, who has joined the other side of the world, were both wanted by the Blues.

Ahead of the pre-season friendly againstArsenal this weekend on the second leg of their US tour, Tuchel said that they need a couple more to improve the squad.

There was a gap last season. You need to improve if you want to stay in your current position. You can't keep up. You will be overtaken by other teams. We've lost people.

Common sense says this is correct. Every manager dreams of finding players from their own league who can adapt quickly. The English team-mates of Raheem are also English.

The process of integration was made easier by the help from Napoli and Mendy. They are very important for us. We need to act fast.

Southampton's Armando Broja in action during an English Premier League match against Leeds United
With West Ham in advanced talks with Chelsea's Armando Broja, take a look at all of his goals from his season on loan with Southampton.

Tuchel has played down the idea that he is going to leave the club on a loan.

The indications are that he will be a part of Tuchel's plans this season.

"I don't think he's going to leave." I know of the offers and the interest. The owner and I will make a decision with the player. It was obvious when he arrived that he was trying to impress and get into a club.

It's clear that he wants to take the next step. There is a lot of interest in him despite the fact that he got injured. We'll see how that goes. There is a contract here.

There are a lot of options, but not the type of Armando. We always have to consider what's good for the club when we are with them. Is there a chance that he will get some time here?

He has played in the premier league We have to decide if we can give him another loan to give him match minutes or if we can give him minutes so he can grow here.

Why is Broja in demand?

Areas which are often overlooked by the public are the key strengths of Broja. He runs with the ball at his feet when he regains possession in the last third.

The Albanian started only 21 league games last season, but only five players recovered more possession in attacking areas.

He is one of the league's elite players for pressing from the front, as well as being one of the top 10 for fast breaks.

The 20-year-old was able to create space and carry the ball into dangerous areas despite his limited game time.

The youngster has scored 20 goals in just 48 starts for the club, an impressive strike-rate, given he has also been hooked off 35 times.
