At least 13 percent of the accounts that took part in the conversation about the Snyder Cut were deemed fake, according to reports obtained by Rolling Stone. Those who are toxic enough to send death threats to Warner Bros. executives seem to be the real fans. There were more people who wanted the film than there actually were.

The people were behind the bots. The forsnydercut.com domain, which claims to have made the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag go viral in May of 2018, became the landing hub for efforts to bring Snyder back. An unnamed digital media executive called it an "inorganic" drop in the number of followers after Justice League was released on the pay per view channel.
