Bill de Blasio, the former mayor of New York City, dropped out of the New York 10th congressional district race and said he would not run for elected office for the time being.
After it became clear that voters were looking for another option, de Blasio dropped out.
The Data for Progress survey found de Blasio in seventh place with just 5% of the vote.
In the past three years, de Blasio has dropped a Democratic presidential bid and decided not to run for governor of New York, despite polls showing him far behind the incumbent.
I'm very grateful." De Blasio acknowledged in a video that he made mistakes. I would like to do better in the future. I would like to learn from those mistakes.
At one point, de Blasio was a popular mayor of the largest U.S. city, and he won reelection with over 70% of the vote. His progressive policies, like raising the city's minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour and implementing universal pre-K, made him a rising star in the left wing of the Democratic Party. A rise in crime was one of the reasons why New Yorkers soured on de Blasio. According to a Siena College poll, his approval rating in New York State was lower than that of Donald Trump and Andrew Cuomo when he decided to run for governor.
New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera, New York Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou and attorney Dan Goldman are the top three candidates for the redrawn 10th District. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) will face Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) in the 12th District. The 10th District, which will largely consist of Brooklyn and a small section of Lower Manhattan, is among many being redrawn after state courts threw out a Democratic-proposed map.
A judge has stopped the New York congressional map from being drawn.
After all, De Blasio won't be running for governor.
