A vampire holds a boy in a graveyard

The company behind the haunted mansion is about to tell a new story. The Graveyard Book is a film based on a novel by Neil Gaiman.

The Graveyard Book is the only work ever to win both the Newbery and Carnegie medals. Bod is a normal boy who is being raised by ghosts and lives in a graveyard. It is a blend of humor and heart with danger and the dead in a way that only Neil Gaiman can do. The first significant move on the adaptation was reported by Deadline. The writer of Mary Poppins Returns and Finding Neverland is writing the new script.

It is not known when The Graveyard Book will be a Disney theatrical release or if it will be a Disney+ movie. On paper, it seems like a solid combination of rich, vibrant source material and a director who knows how to handle that. It has been a good while since Forster directed a memorable film. Even a big hit like World War Z is not a big fan favorite. It's possible that a creator with a strong sense of story, worldbuilding, and character will help make this special.

We will know if this is a project we can expect in the next few years if Disney shows it at its own version of Comic-Con. It could take a long time if not.
