Several House Democrats were arrested on Tuesday as they protested the conservative majority's decision to overturn federal abortion rights.

A group of Democrats gathered at the steps of the Capitol and marched toward the Supreme Court as part of a civil disobedience protest.

The lawmakers, along with activists, held signs that said "we won't go back" and "our body, our choice" during the protest.

The members of Congress were aware that they could be arrested for blocking traffic at the intersection.

In the past, the types of protest have led to the arrest of lawmakers.

Multiple reporters at the scene reported that Capitol Police escorted lawmakers away from the intersection to process their arrests. 16 members of Congress were among the 34 people arrested by Capitol Police.

Bush and his colleagues put their bodies on the line for justice. Our bodies are banned.

"The least I can do is put my body on the line for the 33 million women at risk of losing their rights, and that's what I'm going to do," she said.

If women don't have control over their own bodies and decisions about their own health, there is no democracy.

The Supreme Court's decision on June 24 to overturn the landmark decision to establish a constitutional right to abortion is the subject of the rally.

The House passed a bill on Friday that would codify abortion rights in federal law and protect access to abortion for people who want it. The Senate is expected to reject the measures because of their opposition to abortion rights.
