During the summer months, the company provides water and ice to workers, as well as heat illness and injury prevention training, according to a spokesman.
The spokesman said that they can report that the employee is okay. The drivers are trained to work in the heat. Our employee used his training to get in touch with his manager, who immediately helped him. We don't want our employees to risk their health by continuing to work.
On Thursday, the temperature in the area was over 100 degrees. There is an excessive heat warning in place. The US experienced one of the hottest summers on record last year and this year seems to be following the same pattern.
Every year the records get easier to break because of the changing climate. If you can't get any relief, it's very dangerous.
According to Insider's Jordan Hart, a man died on the job in June due to the heat. The cause of death has not been made public. Chavez was found dead in his truck while on the job.
A call was made for air conditioning to be provided for the company's fleet of trucks.
Delivery drivers have been affected by heat waves in the US. Workers at Mcdonald's and Jack in the Box staged walk outs last year because they said they were forced to work in the heat.
