Users are not allowed to share their accounts with other people. The company has a new way of turning it into a feature.

The "add a home" feature allows users to buy additional homes with whom they would like to share their account. Each home incurs a monthly fee on top of your regular subscription fee, but that fee is considerably less than the cost of a fullNetflix subscription, so it still allows a couple of households to save some money.

You can use the feature to watch Netflix on your phone, laptop, or tablets. A new setting will allow users to control where their account is being used, as well as remove additional homes at any time, according to the company.

The feature is going to launch on August 22. When someone is sharing their account with another household, users will be asked to add homes and approve the additional fee in order for it to not be automatic.

The feature can't be used in certain ways. Basic accounts can add one extra home, Standard accounts can add two, and Premium accounts can add three.

The company's FAQ states that it uses information such as device IDs and account activity to detect extra homes.

The new feature isn't the same as the " add extra membe r" feature which allowed users to add sub accounts for up to two people they don't live with.

The "add a home" feature is limited to a few countries.

"Widespread account sharing between households undermines our long term ability to invest in and improve our service," according to Chengyi Long, the Director of Product innovation.

It is the first time in the company's history that it lost subscribers in the first quarter of a year. In June, the company said it might add an ad-supported plan at a lower cost.
