The Prime Video app is going to be updated ahead of the fall season.
After years of looking the same, the streaming service will get a new user interface. The update will start rolling out to streaming devices this week with a vague promise for when everyone can expect to have it. A short video explaining all the changes was released by Amazon.
Content is sorted into horizontal rows with large, rectangular images promoting each show or movie, but how you access it has changed. Home, Store, Find, Live TV, Free With Ads, and My Stuff are the primary tabs that can be accessed through a new sidebar menu rather than the old one. Content that is free with a Prime Video subscription is marked with a blue checkmark, while anything you need to rent or buy has a shopping bag icon now.
A new row on the Home screen shows not only what you've been watching, but how far into it you got before you stopped. If you don't want to miss out, there is a new section showing what's been popular recently. There is a new sports sub-menu here that will give you access to live sports. This is going to be an important page for millions of customers to know about when it comes to exclusive weekly NFL games through Prime Video.

The tiles are very large and the update looks to still heavily promote Amazon originals. It was only a matter of time before the Fire TVUI was updated with a similar experience to the Prime Video app.
Let's hope the streaming quality is up to par with the new interface you'll use to watch them.
