More than a dozen House Republicans voted against a resolution that supported NATO membership for Sweden and Finn.

The House passed the measure, which had bipartisan sponsorship, in a 394-18 vote, with all the opposition coming from the Republican party. Nineteen Republicans and two Democrats did not vote.

The bill was objected to by 18 House Republicans.

The measure shows support for Sweden joining NATO and encourages member states to support it.

The resolution supports the decision of the two Nordic countries to join the military alliance and encourages NATO countries to fulfill their two percent of GDP defense spending pledge.

Less than three weeks after NATO invited the pair of countries to join, the measure was passed.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine increased the pressure on Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Moscow continues to attack.

America can't afford to subsidize socialism's defense, nor should we, according to Massie. I voted against the House resolution.

Only eight of the 30 NATO countries met the guideline of spending 2% of their GDP on defense in 2021, according to a Newsweek article in March.

Measures related to the Russia, Ukraine and the invasion of the past have been voted against by Massie and other GOP lawmakers.

In May, Massie and Greene voted against three bills related to the invasion, one of which required foreign entities and individuals under U.S. authority to comply with sanctions on Russia. The Treasury Secretary wouldn't be allowed to take part in transactions related to the exchange of SDRs that Russia or Belarus have.

Russia has received support throughout its invasion of Ukraine.

The lawmakers voted against the bill to suspend the debt payments.

In April, Massie, Greene, Cawthorn, and Roy joined with four other progressive lawmakers to oppose a measure urging President Biden to seize assets from Russians who have been blacklisted by the US.

In April, 10 GOP House members voted against the Ukraine lend-lease bill, which sought to make it easier for the US to send military assistance to Ukraine.
