Did you ever think Pujols would get this far? After defeating Schwarber in the first round, Pujols' final HR derby appearance came to an end when he was outhomered by Soto.
The rookies want to squash three-peat.
Alonso failed to become the first three-peat Derby winner as the rookies knocked out the two-time defending champ. We are guaranteed our second all-Dominican final, matching the one in 2010 when David Ortiz defeated Hanley Ramirez.

J-Rod wants the reigning champ to lose.
It was Juli-oo. After a slow start when he called timeout with 1:44 remaining and just seven home runs, J-Rod found his rhythm. After hitting 16 more in 1:44, he added eight more in his minute of extra time to finish with 31. He had the longest of this round. It's game on, Pete.
The crowd is loud.
Schwarber lost to Pujols in the first round of the Home Run Derby and bowed to him.
Pujols hit seven homers in one minute of extra time to beat Schwarber in the 1969 Mets of Home Run Derby. Old man, there are two more rounds left.

Schwarber and Pujols are both at 13 home runs, but Schwarber is 0-4 in his round and Pujols is 2-2.
Paying respects to a legend.
Pujols, the oldest player ever to compete in the Derby, was sentimentally the favorite, but he was hardly the favorite to win a contest that rewards strength as much as power. He had to call a timeout after just one home run in the first 56 seconds of the game. It's a bad sign. Some of us had tears in our eyes. When the All-Stars surrounded Pujols before his final 30 seconds, we lost a few more. A legendary person.
Soto defeated Ramirez.
He didn't need 60 seconds of extra time to win. There is a 482-foot rocket just below the concourse in right-center. He might be getting ready for some home runs in the next two rounds.
Juan Soto eliminated Jose Ramirez in the first round with 18 home runs and then celebrated with a bat flip.
Ramirez and Soto are going to fight.
Even though Ramirez didn't show the power of Rodriguez or Alonso, he still finished with 17 home runs, enough pressure that Soto will not be able to cruise into the second round. A Statcast-era record 520-foot shot was set by Soto in his overtime victory over Ohtani. Will he be able to hit a Willie Stargell out of the stadium?
The dream of threepeat continues.
Alonso doesn't panic in the Home Run Derby. He was in trouble midway through his round because he couldn't find a perfect launch angle and he hit low liners that were short of the warning track. With just under 30 seconds left in his bonus round, he found his swing and narrowly beat Acuna Jr. The dream for a three-peat is still alive despite the round not being a dominant one.
Seattle is a great place to live.
Rodriguez is the first Mariner to advance to the semifinals of the Derby in 15 years. The Kid is on site today. "Let the man be the man," said Griffey.

Is this the first time you've had nerves? It's not for him. One of the best rounds in Home Run Derby history was put together by the 21-year-old. He hit a series of high fly balls that bounced over the fence, transitioned into some low screaming liners that cleared the fence, and then started bashing a few that cleared the stadium.

The All-Star Home Run Derby is being held in Los Angeles and will be won by the player with the most home runs.
Who will win the Home Run Derby and who will lose in the final?
This is the perfect place for the game's best pure hitter to vent his anger after being thrown into trade rumors. Pete Alonso will be dethroned by Soto in the final. He's going to hit a lot of opposite-field homers.
Ali-Frazier will go head-to-head with Alonso and it will be like that.
Passan said Alonso. He has the most home runs on the planet. He has won the derby the past two times. He will face Acuna in the first round, but they have faced each other before, and the polar bear came out on top. He defeated NL East opponent Soto in the finals.
It's the year of the baseball team. Rodriguez is confident and has been on fire. He's going to hit a bunch of lasers into the left-center bleachers, like Alonso did in the semifinals, and he's going to win it as a first baseman.
Who will hit the longest homerun of the night?
The longest home run in the majors this year has been hit by Acuna. He has hit 13 home runs 450 feet or longer, second only to C.J. Cron, even though he missed time with a tornACL. Three years ago, Acuna hit all the fields, but he lost to Alonso in the second round. He will clear Dodger Stadium if he gets pull happy this year. It's possible that one could reach 510 feet.
Alonso will hit a 512-foot home run.
One doesn't take the power of Soto for granted. The Home Run Derby is more about home runs than it is about hearts and minds. We would like to see tanks. We would like to see balls that fly. We want to see the ball hit the ground.
Willie Stargell and Mark McGwire have both hit two home runs out of Dodger Stadium. One of them was Stargell's, which was at an estimated 506 feet. During the contest, we're going to see a few fly out of the ballpark, but we're also going to see a couple longer than 506. Schwarber is going to hit a homerun.
