A Georgia man has been fighting with a rental car giant for five months over thousands of dollars in rental fees for a single day trip.

Avis said he kept the car longer than he said he would.

After a store at the airport charged him more than $4,000 for what was supposed to be less than $300, he called a consumer investigator.

The Avis representatives confirmed that he dropped the car off at the airport after he disputed the extra charges. They wouldn't give back all of the charges.

When he dropped off the car at the airport, he followed the instructions. It was supposed to cost $295 for 24 hours. He brought his brother's belongings back to Georgia after he died.

We returned it within 16 hours.

He was charged more than he was expecting on his credit card.

They said it was for the extra days you kept it.

Avis said that Hagerman kept the car for an extra 10 days, but he disagreed. Avis told Hagerman that he returned the car after checking the video. They told him that they would only return half of his money and that he would have to pay more than $2,000 for the trip.

The person said it was theft. They're just taking money. It is.

Avis sent a letter to Hagerman saying they were adding $450 to the cost because the car was dirty.

For the last five months, he has been fighting with Avis. Avis finally paid attention to Channel 2 Action News.

The money was returned on Monday. Avis issued a statement.

The Avis Budget Group apologized to Mr. Hagerman. The rental fee has been adjusted and the cleaning fee has beenRefunded.

A vice president of the company called and said he would pay back everything.

He had to fight Avis for five months after dealing with a family tragedy.
