The Royal Caribbean Group's Silversea Cruises has acquired its newest luxury expedition cruise ship, the Endeavour, for $275 million.
Crystal Cruises stopped operations in February after the delivery of the cruise ship. A growing number of high-end, affluent customers are interested in expedition cruises and will be served by the new management of the Silver Endeavour.
One of the most expensive cruise ships ever built is said to have cost $385 million to build.
The president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group said in a press release that they are looking to grow their fleet to meet the demand for ultra-luxury expedition cruising.
The polar class ship can hold zodiac boats, kayaks, high quality camera systems, and observation areas. It wouldn't be a true cruise ship if there weren't recreational and leisure options. The eight-deck vessel has a spa, several restaurants and bars, and an almost equal ratio of guests to crew.
Silversea has five expedition ships in its fleet. The company says that it has been seeing strong demand for its expedition cruises. The Royal Caribbean Group's cruise brand added three additional itineraries to its season in June.
