GM's CEO says the company will keep its headquarters in Detroit.

The Renaissance Center is the centerpiece of the city's skyline just across the Detroit River from Canada.

She used the name given to the complex by locals to say that the headquarters would always be in Detroit. The plan right now is for it to be at the Renaissance Center. She said that their home was that one.

She said she can't predict what will happen in the next 10 or 15 years.

She said that the company has to look at its space needs now that many white-collar employees are staying at home much of the work week.

The company takes up 1/3 of the RenCen's towers. A large part of GM's work force is located north of the city at an updated 1950s technical center in suburban Warren. The headquarters of the company were considered to be moved after GM filed for Chapter 11.

"As we move to having more of a hybrid work structure, we have to look at what's the right space"

The hybrid model is still being evaluated by GM. Many CEOs wonder if working from home will allow for collaboration and reinforcement of a corporate culture. She said that there are benefits to being in the office.

It depends on the company and industry. People are used to working from home. She said that workers don't need to be at the office every day at the same time.

The company is looking at opportunities to develop on the river. The bridge that connects the island park to the south side of the river will be expanded.

The Riverwalk is one of the best in the country. We will do the right thing if we can improve that area.

Henry Ford II built the Renaissance Center in an effort to revive Detroit. GM moved its headquarters from an area north of downtown to the complex in 1996.
