What will become of Odell Beckham?

Beckham woke up Friday morning to the news that he had signed a contract with the Bills.

The constant stream of rumors, which may or may not be accurate, is one of the main reasons why social media is so hard to use. Imagine waking up and seeing that you've signed a new contract that you don't know anything about.

The culprit of this prank is a person who goes by the name of "bleatchereport". It is easy to see how this could be mistaken for something else. There is a logo, but no blue check mark. That should have been the first sign that this was not a real thing. There isn't a "T" in the wordbleacher.

OBJ knew he didn't have a contract to play in Buffalo, so he went along and had a good time. After you get past the silliness of the fake account, you realize that Beckham is going into year nine of his career without a team and training camps opening up.

Beckham doesn't have a home in the National Football League. After tearing his knee in the Super Bowl, he is still without a job. His injury history makes this understandable. He probably won't be signed before the season begins in September.

The narrative of OBJ being a head case continues even after the injuries. He seems to have grown over the last few years. It was true with the Giants but not as much in Cleveland. Beckham was no longer the young star he was in New York by the time he joined the Cleveland team.

Fame seemed to overwhelm him in NYC. It all happened in a blink of an eye. Beckham caught over 100 passes in his first three seasons in the National Football League. It makes you a megastar in the Big Apple if you produce that quickly. It's too much for most young people to handle.

The catch against the Dallas Cowboys over Brandon Carr on Sunday Night Football set the stage for OBJ. One career ceased to exist after this play, and the other was strapped to a rocket ship headed to the moon and a dinner date with the king.

At that time, everything was perfect for OBJ. Beckham was OBJ that night even though he lost the game. Only once they have accomplished enough to be a star can a wide receiver be called a diva. The attitude contributed to his split from the Giants.

He took out his anger by swinging his helmet at the net and it swung back. Beckham proposed to his girlfriend after the game-winning touchdown catch. These acts only work when you play well. We're aware of that story.

Many people were upset about the one. There is a picture of a boat with a musician. Taking a few days to get away with friends is fine. You shouldn't do it the week leading up to a big playoff game if you're a professional athlete. It isn't against the law, but it looks bad. That picture only gets negative press when you follow it up with four catches for 28 yards on 11 targets and two drops in the end zone. They lost the playoffs.

OBJ had an altercation with Josh Norman. Beckham gave the media another thing to talk about and distract from his production on the field. It isn't long before you're looking at rubble after things start to fall.

The injuries haven't helped OBJ since he left the Giants. Nobody came away from that situation looking good, but Beckham is not to blame for that. I can empathise with a father who is tired of his son catching all the blame when he has an average quarterback throwing the ball over his head and behind him.

Beckham was on a winning team and playing in the Super Bowl when he got injured again.

OBJ is a great receiver. Don't act like he's not. He will be 30 this year and coming off a second knee injury. I don't know how many teams will be interested in his services once he's able to play again.

It really sucks to see someone who can grab the world with his fingers, but can't find a franchise to call home in a few years.
