After losing the presidential election, Donald Trump lost his mind and the Republican Party needs a new generation of leadership in four years.

Jacobs was one of the Republicans who voted to object to the certification of the election results in some states.

The retiring House Republican doesn't have to face GOP primary voters anymore.

Jacobs told The Buffalo News that he thought Trump lost his mind after the election. I definitely do. I don't bother.

The 1960 presidential election was a good example of how Trump should have acted.

Jacobs said that most people agree that there was fraud in the election. Did they know at that time? Absolutely.

He said that even Richard Nixon did not try to do what Trump did.

It would be best for the party if we embraced the new generation of leadership, and that a lot of Trump's accomplishments were "undone" by his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

After facing backlash for his embrace of an assault weapons ban after a mass shooting at a Buffalo, New York grocery store, Jacobs abandoned his re-election bid this year.

He said at the press conference that the election would be divisive for both the Republican Party and the people of the district. A negative half-truth filled media attack funded by millions of dollars of special interest money coming into our community around this issue of guns and gun violence and gun control is not something we need.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, a package of new gun restrictions passed in the wake of a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, was supported by 14 House Republicans. Other Democratic-proposed gun restrictions have not been taken up by the Senate.

After the committee issues a final report, the New York Republican told The Buffalo News that he would speak out again.
