Four people were killed when two small airplanes collided in the air over North Las Vegas airport in Nevada.
According to the FAA and a fire official, the planes were about to land when they crashed.
Two people were on the plane that crashed into a field off the runway, while the other plane fell into a pond, according to the F.A.A.
According to the F.A.A., there was a passenger and a crew member on the plane. One crew member and a passenger were on the plane. The companies didn't reply to questions on Monday.
According to the North Las Vegas Fire Department, there were four deaths in the crash. The names of the people who died have not been made public.
Jake Levesque said on Monday that witnesses reported that the planes were trying to land when they collided.
The people on both planes were dead on arrival, he said.
The National Transport Safety Board and the F.A.A. are investigating the crash. An investigator from the N.T.S.B. was on his way to the crash site, but no other information was given.
It was rare for two planes to collide at the airport, according to Mr. Levesque. The planes were badly damaged in the crash with splintered tails and wings.
