A man who police say went on a violent crime spree at three gas stations was shot and killed by a customer.
It happened in St. Charles at 3:20 a.m. The robbery suspect was shot and killed by a witness.
The witness told police that he saw the suspect pull into the parking lot and park in front of the door at the gas station. A female clerk stands near an area where a suspect carried a backpack into the store.
Police said the suspect dragged the clerk towards the counter. The witness saw the suspect hold a knife to the clerk.
The witness confronted the suspect with a gun, police said.
Police said the suspect told the witness that he had something for them.
The suspect fell to the floor after being shot by the witness. The clerk and witness both made calls for help.
The suspect died after being taken to the hospital by first responders. His name has not been made public.
