Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Representative Bennie Thomspon (D-MS) serve on the Select Committee investigating the January 6th Insurrection.

Text messages between members of the Secret Service were subpoenaed by the committee of elected officials. The texts were deleted by the Department of Homeland Security. The committee will receive those messages by Tuesday.

The January 6th riots were part of a failed attempt to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election. The committee has subpoenaed a lot of text messages between members of the Secret Service as they investigate what happened that day and the events leading up to it. The Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General sent a letter to committee members stating that the texts were deleted.

There is an obligation for federal agencies to retain records because of the fact that the Secret Service was aware that this was one of the signature events of our country. He is a member of the Select Committee. The Committee intends to get the texts as soon as possible.

The Secret Service claimed that the text messages were deleted as part of a device replacement program, according to The Intercept. The text messages were erased after the Office of the Inspector General requested them, according to the letter.
