Justin Jefferson

Jefferson said he will be the best wide receiver in the league by the end of the 2022. The talk of the internet has been Jefferson's bold declaration. In a recent interview with Complex, the third-year wideout gave his thoughts.

“I’ll say after this year I’ll be the best receiver in the NFL. I definitely have to give it to Davante Adams as of now, him being so crazy and dynamic on the field. His route running is crazy, so I definitely have to give it to him right now, but I’m pretty sure after this year, it’s going to be me.”

Tough competition

Jefferson will have a great argument if he keeps his projection of two years in the league. Jefferson had the most receiving yards in the first two years of his career. From the first year to the second, Jefferson caught 20 more passes.

Jefferson has a good enough quarterback in KirkCousins to possibly reach this goal. For the first time in his career,Cousins threw more than 30 touchdown passes with Jefferson in the lineup. The connection and chemistry are gone. It's time to win some games. The last two seasons have seen Minnesota finish under.500.

Jefferson will need more than one receiver to claim best in the league. We can't leave out players such as Cooper Kupp, DeANDRE HOPKINS, and TYREEK HILL. The receiver have one thing in common. In the year 2021, they caught over 100 balls.

Jefferson has been strong at the beginning of his career, and he has an advantage over every other wideout. Jefferson produces more in his first two years than the others.

Staking his claim

In his first two years, Jefferson had nearly 200 catches. He and Michael Thomas had the most catches in the first two years of their careers. In their first two seasons, Hill and Diggs have 136 catches apiece. Jefferson averages 91.4 yards per game. In his first two seasons in the National Football League,Hopkins averaged 61.9 ypg.

It took these other receiver more than a year or two to become household names. Playing for Andy Reid and catching passes from Patrick Mahomes raised his profile. It is not possible for Jefferson to play for a middle-of-the-pack franchise.

Jefferson can't claim that the others can win football. The other five were on the playoffs. The Cards made the playoffs despite the fact thatHopkins missed half the year. One thing to do on a team that is going nowhere but doing it for a winner is posting outrageous statistics.

You can only control so much in a dependent position. It doesn't mean Jefferson can't or won't climb to the top of the mountain, but it means a lot more when you do it for a winner. I am not saying that the Vikings need to win the Superbowl. Jefferson could solidify his spot atop the position if he makes the playoffs and another great year ensues.

The younger generation

Jefferson isn't on an island alone. A few more years of experience under their belt is what these receivers have. Other young pass catchers will have something to say about Jefferson's claim to the throne.

Ja'Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, and Deebo Samuel are some of the players making a lot of noise in the league. As a pass catcher, I would rank Jefferson higher than these young players. You can't tell me that Samuel's contribution to the team isn't as important as Jefferson's.

It will be difficult for Jefferson to hold onto the top receiver in the league. Adams,Hopkins, Hill, and Kupp have all been considered the best wide outs in the past few years. Jefferson is able to jump into the conversation and grab the crown. Everyone is watching how long he stays up there.
