It feels like we're moving away from a fight against Gervonta Davis even though Ryan Garcia looked better than ever with a sixth-round knockout of Javier Fortuna on Saturday.
The impressive performance -- knockdowns in Rounds 4, 5 and 6 -- wasGarcia's second consecutive fight at 140 pounds. "Tank" Davis did compete at junior welterweight once, a June 2021 TKO of Mario Barrios, but the weight disparity feels like yet another wrench in the spokes of any efforts to combine the two. "I'm going to stay at 140, I'm going to fight 'Tank' Davis if he wants it at 140, I'm never going back down to 135, I'm going to stay at 140 for the rest of my life, I'm going to fight I'll fight a 140-pound fighter if he doesn't. If he does not want to do it, there will be riots.
I told everyone that I'm committed to it and I'm not going to change my mind for anyone.
It's clear that Davis would like to fight a bigger man in the ring, but it's not certain how he would feel about it.
Davis said he was ready for the fight on his social media accounts.
See y'all the end of the year..#TheONE

One of the many obstacles to the fight is the weight. This week, he repeatedly stated that he wouldn't allow boxing politics -- he's promoted by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy promotions while Davis is with the premier boxing champion -- to prevent a deal from being reached.
It is more difficult to say that.
The biggest roadblock to a potential super fight is competing networks.
Both "Tank" and "Garcia" fight exclusively on the streaming service. This same problem held up a title fight between two people. Munguia is a member of Golden Boy. It was not possible to agree on which network would show the fight.
The same point may prevent a fight between the two people. It's clear who the A-side is, but the purse split will make it more difficult. When Davis outpointed Cruz in December, he packed over 15,000 into the arena and sold out Brooklyn'sBarclays Center.
There were 11,288 fans at that L.A. venue on Saturday forGarcia. If the sides can compromise on the issues, Davis-Garcia will be a must-watch fight between two of the youngest stars in the sport.
The kind of fight boxing desperately needs are the two punchers with lightning- quick hands. If the event of that magnitude were to happen, it would make him a much bigger star than he already is. He would be in a good position for a lot of fights in the junior division.
The 140-pound ruler Josh Taylor could meet Jack Catterall in a sequel this fall, but he has vacating two of the titles. Jose Ramirez and Jose Zepeda are also in the running for another title match. On August 13th, Teofimo Lopez will make his 140-pound debut against Pedro Campa. The two men are looking for big fights. After a second fight with George Kambosos Jr., it's likely that the lightweight champion will jump up to 140 pounds. If he can't land Davis before the end of the year, there are some names he could look at, but it would be a pity. "Tank" Davis is the only opponent who matters for the man. With two fights in four months, along with a statement win over Fortuna, the time is ripe for the two boxers to meet in one of the biggest fights in boxing. It's going to get me the respect I deserve. I'm always safe. You will see the spirit of competition in me when I beat Tank.
