Calvin Bassey: Rangers accept Ajax offer for defender with deal expected to top £20m

The deal for Calvin Bassey is expected to be completed in the coming days after Rangers accepted an offer from the Dutch club.

A sell-on fee of 10% is thought to have been agreed by the club.

A key player for Rangers last season, the Nigerian international joined the club in 2020.

Bassey was not present for the Rangers win over the hosts.

Van Bronckhorst told Sky Sports that Calvin was moving on after the win. I would like to keep him. He did well with his performances.

The opener was scored by Borna Barisic in Bassey's left-back role, while Charlie McCann netted the winning goal.

Bassey played at left centre-back for Rangers during their run to the European final and Scottish Cup triumph.

Rangers have signed attacking players Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo, with defender John Souttar agreeing a pre-contract move earlier in the year.
