According to a report in The Athletic, the Washington Nationals are willing to listen to trade offers for Juan Soto after he turned down their most recent long-term offer.
The report says that Soto turned down a huge contract that would have made him the highest paid baseball player of all time.
Earlier this year, he said that he had turned down a 13-year, $350 million offer. He can become a free agent after the 2020 season.
A change of plans for the Nationals would be represented by the decision to listen to potential trades for Soto, after the president of baseball operations and general manager said last month that the team wouldn't trade the star.
"We are not going to trade Juan Soto for someone else," he said on June 1. We told the player and his agent.
According to The Athletic, some Nationals officials don't think they'll be able to reach a long-term agreement with Soto.
