A judge sentenced two New York men to prison for their involvement in the Capitol riot.

Records from the Justice Department show that both Mattice and Mault were sentenced on Friday. Two people pleaded guilty to assault on law enforcement officers during the Capitol riot.

Mattice reached out to another rioter and grabbed a small object that looked like a canister. Police officers were sprayed with chemical spray by him.

Mattice captured himself and Mault on video. According to the release, in one of the videos, Mattice can be heard saying, "It's about to be nuts."

The judge sentenced the two men on Friday. The two cried and asked the Chief U.S. District Judge for a lighter sentence. They continued to cry as they were told their time was up.

On January 6, no one who broke the police lines and stopped the democratic process was a patriot, according to the author.

One police officer was killed in the Capitol riot. The Proud Boys are a hate group and were also present.

Despite Joe Biden's election victory, organizers were encouraged by Donald Trump's calls to protest the results of the election. While members of Congress were meeting in the Capitol to certify the results and verify Biden's electoral win, Trump supporters staged an attempted coup.

The insurrectionists deleted photos and social-media posts that proved they participated in the Capitol riot. Some broke their phones, scrubbed their social media accounts, and tried to wipe their hard drives of evidence of their involvement.

It was easier for the FBI to identify and charge those who boasted of their involvement. More than 900 people have been charged in connection with the insurrection.
