England cruises into knockout stages with big win vs. N. Ireland (2:22)

England beat Northern Ireland to win the group stage. There is a time and a place for it.

6:43 PM ET

With England coming into their final group stage match against Northern Ireland, it was going to be interesting to see what SarinaWiegman did. With a spot into the quarterfinals already booked, there was the question of whether she would rest certain players in order to give others more playing time.

Even though she wouldn't be on the bench for Friday's game, her touch was obvious within the squad. She wouldn't change it if the squad were purring along so well as a group.

Other teams who have been tipped to be favorites have failed or looked uncertain at times, but England have remained well-oiled. Only one team has conceded no goals at a Women's Euro, and that was Germany when they won the tournament in 2005.

After the game, assistant coach Arjan Veurink said that the team's performance showed that they have a lot of quality. Although Sarina isn't here, they responded well and I'm happy with the team performance.

We didn't use the right spaces to play in in the first 30 minutes, but we did well in the first part of the second half.

While Friday was the first match that it took England until 40 minutes to score, they got some glorious goals through Fran Kirby, Beth Mead and Alessia Russo, who scored with her first touch of the ball. They have scored 98 goals in 17 games and are perfect in 17 games.

The records continue to come in.

Ellen White is one goal away from equalling Wayne Rooney's all-time England record, while Mead is one goal away from matching Inka Grings' Euro record of six goals in one tournament. She tied Jodie Taylor for most goals scored by an English player at the Euros with one more goal. Four of the top six scorers are from England. The assists chart has Kirby at the top. England scored more goals in the group stages than any other country.

The tournament has been a good one for the hosts.

The team effort has been the main reason for their success so far.

She looked like a woman who was on a mission to score as many goals as she could. She wasn't picked to go to the Olympics by Hege Riise, which was the main talking point going into the season. She has used every opportunity to explain why Riise made that mistake. She scored 11 goals and got eight assists with the English club.

Would I be the player I am today if not for last summer? He said before the start of the tournament that maybe it wasn't. "I'm enjoying my football, I'm really happy out there on the pitch, that is showing in my performances, and hopefully I can bring some of them into this summer's Euros"

It's only been a year, but I think I've grown as a player. I don't think I'm thinking about what other people think or concentrating on myself.

When I play my best football, it's when I play with a lot more freedom this year. I do not over-commit anything. This year has been better for me because I make better decisions.

There's a beautiful game here. You can watch tournaments and teams.

There was a moment of brilliance here on Friday. She brought it around the defender with her right foot. She hit the ball with her left foot after changing her feet.

Kirby is one of the players who has shown up despite her own difficulties. Even though she is often central to play and an assist queen, her goal against Northern Ireland reminded everyone of the strikes she can pull off. Kirby whipped the ball into the top right corner after controlling the ball on the outside of the box.

She has shown that fatigue hasn't slowed her down, even though there was a question mark over whether she would be able to compete at the tournament.

Kirby wanted to get a goal through the tournament but it hasn't come off for him. I was in the right place and I got good contact on the ball, so I was really happy to open my account and see if it went in.

Along with records on the field, England have set records off of it as well by hosting the most well-attended Women's Euro ever. The English fans have been in for a treat as the team have out-scored their opponents in the group stage 14-0. Naomi Baker/Getty Images

White was replaced by Russo at the start of the second half. She scored her first goal with her first touch and then proceeded to slide in her second.

When White was in a goalless streak, and with four goals in four games, she is giving us a selection dilemma, as to whether or not she should start ahead of Russo. It's unlikely she'll swap out her squad choice, but she's a great option off the bench.

It's great to come on and score for England. She said that she put it in the back of the net because she was in the right place. We will move on to the next game even though I should have finished that one. Ian Wright's goals may have helped me. I would love to play in every game for England, but I need to be patient.

The manner in which they've done it shows why they should be considered the favorites for the tournament.

Depending on how Saturday's Group B clash between the two goes, Spain orDenmark will await them. It will be a sterner test for England than what they've faced in the group stages, but it's hard to see them faltering at that point. Spain has scored four goals in the tournament, while the Danes have only scored one. If England did not win the whole thing, it would be a failure.

If they did not win this tournament, it would be a huge failure. They are home and wet. He said everyone should leave.

This side has been missing a level of professionalism in the past. Is she able to keep it up?
