The New York Times reported that President Joe Biden's plan to appoint a conservative attorney to a federal judgeship was scuttled by resistance from Sen. Paul.
Democrats and advocates were upset by Biden's plan to nominate an anti- abortion Republican in a deal with McConnell.
The deal was an effort to appeaseMitch McConnell, which is something this state and country should be very upset about.
McConnell's influence on judicial nominations has increased over time. Insider previously reported that Biden would need McConnell's support in order to pass judicial nominations.
I asked what it was for us. According to The Times, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee said to reporters about a potential nomination. They did not give me a specific answer.
McConnell denied the deal in an interview with The Times.
The White House learned that the senator wouldn't return a blue slip on the nominee. The White House will not make a nomination.
According to the Committee on the Judiciary, the blue slip is a document that establishes the Senate's consent to the White House's choice for a federal judge. The blue slip was rejected by Paul.
McConnell told The New York Times that he couldn't get his kind of judge out of the president.
He said the opposition of Paul was pointless.
The Eastern District Court in Kentucky was going to appoint the solicitor general to the court.
He defended a law that would have made abortion-seeking patients listen to the heartbeat of their unborn child.
Supreme Court Justices Amy ConeyBarrett and the other justices of the court have connections to the conservative society.
Mini Timmaraju, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said in a statement that the decision was the right one.
"With abortion rights and access on the line in Kentucky and across the country, it is absolutely essential that all judges defend and uphold our fundamental rights and freedoms," Timmaraju said.
The White House, Sen. Paul, and others did not reply to the request for comment.
