The reelection campaign of Sen. Joe Manchin raised over $1 million over the course of three months thanks to donations from a number of people.
The Federal Election Commission records show that the second quarter ended at the end of June. As Manchin, a conservative Democrat from West Virginia, engaged in negotiations over climate change and tax legislation, the donations arrived.
He said this week that he wouldn't discuss these provisions anymore.
Manchin, in an interview on West Virginia's MetroNews' "Talkline" on Friday, said he wants to hold off on the party's climate and tax policies until after the next inflation report. In June, inflation increased by more than 9%.
Manchin rejected Biden's proposal to spend $1 trillion on social and climate spending. The representatives for Manchin didn't reply to the request for comment.
Manchin has been praised by business and Wall Street leaders. Before his latest decision to stall his party's policy goals, he saw a wave of donations from corporate leaders.
The people briefed on the matter did not want to be named since the event was private.
Langone said he would host one of the biggest fundraisers he had ever had for Manchin. There were no calls to Langone's office.
In the past quarter, the political action committees for energy companies gave to Manchin. If Congress passes any climate related bills, those businesses could be affected. Natural gas and coal are produced in West Virginia.
Manchin received a donation from the American Exploration and Production Council. The largest independent oil and natural gas exploration and production companies in the US are represented by that trade association. Gas and oil giants are listed as members. The energy companies that donated to Manchin's campaign didn't reply to a request for comment.
The CEO of Southern Company Gas contributed to Manchin's campaign. A person for Southern Company Gas wouldn't say anything.
Manchin is running for reelection in the year of the next presidential election. According to his latest filing, his campaign has $9 million on hand.
In May, the owner of thePatriots gave two checks to Manchin. Forbes says that the company has a net worth of $8 billion. An individual can give $5,800 to a campaign, with the maximum being earmarked for an account for a primary election and the other half going to a general election.
The same amount was given to Manchin by the son of his father. The person who answered the request for comment did not say anything.
Manchin received two checks from Paul Tudor Jones two months ago. According to Forbes, Jones has a net worth of $7 billion. A person for Jones refused to speak.
The CEO of an investment bank maxed out to Manchin's campaign as did multiple leaders within the company. A person who works for the company declined to speak.
The CEO of Home Depot gave two donations to Manchin.
A Home Depot spokesman wouldn't say anything.
