It was the end of a 13-season career for the former sixth-round draft pick.

When he was drafted by the TennesseeTitans in 2009, he was the lowest draft pick in the history of the team. He won a Super Bowl ring with the New EnglandPatriots while playing with his twin brother, but he was also a member of the winless ClevelandBrowns.

The past 13 seasons have been "one hell of a journey" according to the post by the player. "As I reflect and look back on my career, I have far surpassed any and every expectation I set for myself, and that's what I'm proudest of when I look back at my career."

One of the highlights of Super Bowl LIII was the break up of a pass by Brandin Cooks. New England defeated the Rams 13-3.

McCourty and his twin brother played together for three seasons, starting 33 of them.

One of the highlights of the game was the celebration after the victory by the Pats. "Welcome to the Super Bowl!" exclaimed the man who had already won two Superbowls. Welcome to the big game!

When he joined the Miami Dolphins in 2021, he played seven games before being placed on injured reserve.

He was known for his leadership on and off the field. He won the Don Shula Leadership Award even though he played less than half a season in Miami.

After raising $200,000 for a cause they've passionately advocated for throughout their careers, McCourty and his brother were named as NFLPA Community Most Valuable Players for the year. Both were nominated for Walter Payton Man of the Year.

Over the course of 13 seasons, Jason McCourty played 173 regular-season games and finished with 18 turnovers, nine forced turnovers and four touchdown.
