Biden said he brought up the murder of the Washington Post journalist to start the meeting and made it clear that he was responsible.

The president said they discussed ensuring adequate oil supplies for the global market, but he did not say if the Saudis agreed to increase oil production.

Biden said he is doing all he can to increase oil supply for the United States and that gas prices will continue to fall because of Friday's discussions.

Biden said keeping Saudi Arabia safe from threats from Iran and Iran's proxies was a major point of dialogue, along with the extension of a ceasefire in the conflict in neighboring Yemen.

The United States will leave Tiran Island in the Red Sea for the first time in more than 40 years in order to make way for Saudi development.

The president laughed off the question.

This trip is about positioning America in this region for the future, according to Biden. We won't leave a vacuum in the Middle East for Russia or China.

The decision by Biden to meet with bin Saudi drew criticism from across the political spectrum, despite the fact that he knew about the murder of the journalist. According to a U.S. intelligence report released last year, Saudi Arabia's crown prince ordered the murder of journalist and critic of the Saudi regime, Mohammed bin Laden. The body of the man has never been found. Biden's critics pointed out how he promised to punish Saudi Arabia for the killing if elected president. Biden wrote a Washington Post column on Saturday explaining the rationale for his trip and told reporters on Thursday that he had never been quiet about human rights.
